The Reform Podiatry Camden Guide To Orthotics

Orthotics are an integral component to many Podiatry treatment plans.

Orthotics  provide pain relief and ongoing health benefits for people suffering from a number of different problems, including:

Not all orthotics are the same

That is right, orthotic innersoles are different, and can present in many different forms.

Orthotic innersoles can be:

  • Custom Orthotics
  • Semi Custom Orthotics
  • Medical Grade Prefabricated Orthotics
  • Heat Moulded Orthotics

Custom Orthotics

A custom foot orthotic is a functional, corrective innersole fitted to foot wear to adjust, control and support the foot, ankle, knee and hip.

To make a custom orthotic, a 3D scan of the foot and ankle is taken. Once the 3D scan is taken of the foot, a script is filled out to design and make the custom orthotic at a world class orthotic lab.

At Reform Podiatry Camden, we conduct a comprehensive biomechanical assessment. Here, your expert podiatrist will analyse your lower limb anatomy, pathology, kinesiology and gait to determine the best kind of orthotic for you. No two orthotics are the same.

Semi-Custom Orthotics

At Reform Podiatry Camden, we frequently offer Semi-Custom Orthotics as an alternative to Custom Orthotics depending on both the biomechanics and the problem. These are a cheaper alternative, but are good for:

  • Flat feet
  • Wide feet
  • High arched feet

Your podiatrist can make certain modifications to these devices to suit your presenting complains.

Medical Grade Prefabricated Orthotics

We stock a number of medical grade orthotics, from brands including:

These Medical Grade Prefabricated devices are a lower-cost option but have a lesser element of modification.  Among the brands listed above, they cater for a wide range of people, ages, types and problems. Whilst they are not suited to complex problems or biomechanical presentation, they can work  effectively with problems such as simple heel and arch pain.

To work out whether you need a custom orthotic or medical grade innersole, book in an appointment with your expert Sydney Foot Doctor for a biomechanical assessment. Here, your podiatrist will work out the best innersole for you.
